Moving: Ensuring the Safety of your Animals when Relocating

July 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Pets don’t often like change and they know when their owners are up to something. Your pets will require extra attention if you are planning on moving soon. You will want to put your pets into a room with the door shut. You will want to check on them regularly and make sure they have enough food and water. Rather then just throwing your pet into an already chaotic situation.

The transporting experience is going to be quite different depending on what types of pets you have. This will also deturmine what type of truck or van you will need. Caged animals will be easier to move then animals not in a cage. If you are moving faraway and you have fish, it might be a good idea to consider asking some friends or family to take them in, if you can. More then likely fish will not survive a long trip. Cats and dogs will require human supervision and in most cases they will require some attention. Caged animals do not require as much supervision, as long as they are in a secure ventilated area. Whether you have a dog or a hampster, they will need plenty f air as well as food and water.

Creating a moving checklist is a great idea. This list should include everything from making sure everything is packed, to putting your animals on the truck. You will need to set some type of schedule so you can walk your pets and make sure they get enough to eat on the trip. You might also want to include personal information about your pet such as your name, the location of your address and phone number. So you can get your pet back. On the moving checklist make sure that you include any patterns about the way that your animal acts to ensure that all the proper steps are taken to allow for the easiest transition when it comes to relocating with your pets. You should also make out some flyers with a picture of your pet and bring them along with you on the trip just in case they do get lost.

One of the things on your list should be a trip to the vet before moving. This will ensure your pet is up to date on shots and anything else it may need. Make sure that you check out the health requirements for domesticated animals if you plan on relocation out of the state or the country. If you are moving to another state or country, they may have to have more shots then are required in your current state. You may want to get car shipping prices and take your pet by plane.
