Ferrets are not hamsters. Left all day long to their own devices, they can become unruly and unhappy. ‘Unhappy’ may seem an odd term to some to apply to an animal very different from a dog or cat. But ferrets are domesticated and can bond with their companion, whether human or another ferret.

If you want an exotic bird that was raised by hand, sometimes pet shops will carry them. Or you might be able to find a breeder near you who hand raises some of his. If you can’t find any hand-raised exotic birds, it’s best to get a young one and spend a lot of time with it during the first few months.
