Tips on Bark Control

March 8th, 2010 · No Comments

Dogs bark and this is just a fact of life. Having said so, dog owners have the responsability to train their dogs to reduce their barking to a pace that’s acceptable in the area where they live. When there is excessive barking that is not related to illnesses, dogs will transform from adorable pets and companions to bothersome, annoying animals. That is why the topic of bark control is so important. Fortunately for dog owners everywhere who are dealing with this problem, there are some great bark control products and ideas available.

The Anti Bark Collar

If you want to reduce your dog’s barking without having to pay an expensive trainer, then the anti bark collar is one of the best ways to go. The anti bark collar market has several models that use several methods of correction, from the citronella spray collar to the shock collar. The range of collars in the market is so wide that it satisfies everyone’s needs.

Shock collars have given consistent results for a long time, but unfortunately for their manufacturers, many people think that the shock is similar to the electrical shocks they see on TV, while it’s actually more like the static you get when you handle fabric.

If you feel a little wary about the shock dog collar you can always try a harmless one that is just as effective such as the citronella dog bark collar. This collar has a built-in microphone that “hears” when the dog barks, and it corrects it by spraying the dog’s muzzle with a bit of citronella smell. You may be familiar with this as it is the same smell that is used to repel mosquitoes in the summertime.

The biggest selling point of the citronella collar is that it eliminates the need of electrical shocks, in case you object to them, while at the same time, being effective in reducing excessive barking.

Training School

The dog collars are a great example of a method of bark control that really works. Even so, some dog owners will still prefer to have a trainer from a dog school teach their dogs bark control discipline. If you don’t mind the cost, or your dog seems to be specially stubborn and resists collar training, then a dog school is probably your last and best option.

Some people choose to make their dogs wear the bark control collar when the effects of the training start to wear off.

Manufacturers of bark control collars make them with a switch that you can use to turn off the collar. That way, you can give your dog a rest from training without taking the collar off.
