The Anti Bark Collar: What It Does

March 12th, 2010 · No Comments

While barking is a natural process, it can get truly bothersome when it becomes excessive. Obviously, barking is an advantage if the dog was bought with the intention of making him a guard dog. We mean for the dog to protect our homes from strangers that try to break into them. It’s these times when we are happy that we have a dog that barks at strangers. Other times, our dog barks because he needs something from us, like food or opening the door.

All this is well and good, but sometimes our dogs bark for no reason at all. For example, they bark at simple objects, like a lamp, or they may bark endlessly at visitors that come to our house. If this is the case with your dog, you should really do something about it. It is going to cause you to become annoyed and bothered but also can create problems with your neighbors.

Is There A Solution?

Although there are different methods that can be used to stop a dog from barking, the anti bark collar is certainly one of your best options. These are considered to be very humane because they do not actually hurt your dog and yet they are almost always effective.

There are a few different anti bark collar products to choose from. For example, you can get a citronella anti bark collar for your dog. The citronella anti bark collar works by releasing a small spray of citronella in front of your dog’s nose. The dog will stop barking, curious as to what the new odor is. Over time they will start to realize that every time they bark when they are wearing the collar, the spray comes out.

Another type of anti bark collar that’s popular is the ultrasonic collar. This is also nothing like the shock collar so you do not have to worry about causing your dog any harm. It uses a sound sensor that emits a high pitched noise too loud for humans to hear. The sound distracts the dog and keeps him brom barking, just like the citronella spray does.

Keep in mind that an anti bark collar shouldn’t be worn by your dog all day long. If they seem to tone the barking down at night or you want to make sure they can alert you if they hear an intruder, you can keep the anti bark collar off when you go to bed.
